Couples Counselling

Couples Counselling in Putney, Farnham and Online

Couples often come to counselling when they feel stuck. Perhaps conversations turn into the same argument, or you have drifted into living side by side rather than together. There may have been a breach of trust, a major life change, or a slow build-up of hurt that neither of you knows how to talk about. Couples counselling offers a space to think about this together, with someone who is not on either side.

What Lies Beneath the Arguments

Arguments are rarely only about what they seem to be about. Beneath the dishes, the money or the lateness there are usually deeper feelings: of not being seen, not mattering, or being let down again. When those feelings can be put into words, couples often find they can talk to each other in a different way. Working psychodynamically, we also look at how each of your histories shapes what happens between you now.

Considering Couples Counselling?

You don’t need to be in crisis to come, and you don’t need to have decided anything about the future. Many couples start simply because they want to understand each other better.

How Couples Counselling Can Help

Every relationship meets difficulties at some point. What matters is how a couple manages them. Some couples move from one crisis to another, while others go quiet and grow apart. Counselling gives you both the chance to be heard and to understand what keeps happening between you, so that you can find another way through.

Love, Intimacy and Conflict

Closeness, affection and sex can carry very different meanings for each partner, and they are often where tensions show up most clearly. These can be difficult things to talk about. Counselling offers a safe, unhurried space to approach them together.

What Couples Often Bring

  • Frequent arguments, or conflict that never quite gets resolved
  • Feeling distant, unheard or taken for granted
  • Difficulties with intimacy, affection or sex
  • Infidelity and the loss of trust that follows
  • Pressures around parenthood, work, family or money
  • Uncertainty about the future of the relationship

Getting Started

Starting couples counselling is a significant step, and it helps to know what to expect.

Step 1: A Brief Phone Call

We start with a free, brief conversation to talk about what has brought you and answer any questions you have.

Step 2: The Initial Assessment

Before we meet, I will ask you each to complete a short intake form. The assessment is a chance for me to understand your relationship, and for you both to decide whether working with me feels right.

Sessions, Location and Fees

I see couples in Putney on Thursdays and Fridays, in Farnham Monday to Wednesday, and online. The initial assessment and ongoing sessions are £130 per 50-minute session.

If you would like to work on relationship difficulties on your own, I also offer individual therapy for relationship problems. To arrange a first conversation, please get in touch.
